Don't Say "Sayonara" in Japanese, What Can You Say?
It's funny because they automatically start using more animated arm movements and body expressions while speaking and doing English impressions. That is definitely a Western thing.
watching haiykuu for the nth time, now with a purpose
well, those who are capable of passing the N1 are also usually more or less capable of comprehending spoken japanese, and conveying their thoughts to a certain extent...
Preach!
Eres alot of types of English. I'm from Australia so our English sounds very different to Americans. Many impersonations sounded a bit like Russian to me.
This video is a goldmine. I enjoy the references and book quotes. I've been studying japanese for a long time but always had a hard time making my own sentences/having my own output. I'll go find input resources. Thank you for this.
Surprised I speak your language yankee dog!
Well I hate Joey so it matters not to me.
なんかむかつく
This is great! lol
僕の心のヤバイやつ what does the やつ part mean??
Their imitation of an American speaking English almost sounds more English than an American speaking English😂
the tests are really helpful to daily life and daily spoken japanese is easy to pick up once you have the base from the tests. they feed each other. you're not analysing this from the point of view of an adult learner of japanese, which you've never been. implici knowledge and explicit knowledge are not mutually exclusive, that's a logical fallacy.
You never miss 🔥
the important point of this video is to read as much as possible because the main issue for non-native speakers is speed. Especially in proficiency tests, which most people learning to read will end up taking. Speed is the nail in the coffin. You have to learn to read at near-native speed to pass N2 and N1, and to do anything adult, like academia or working world tasks. You have to be dedicated to imporving your speed, it will not happen naturally.
for autistic people, notes are crucial.
example sentences are critical. that's true. only use apps/dictionaries that make use of these. especially from intermediate level onwards.
spaced repetition is the first time you're making sense.
mnemonics are bullshit, too many words to remember.
poor explanation of radicals, these should be a central part for foreigners/adults learning to read japanese.
"just learn words" is also terrible advice. learn kanji with the words they're in. then write example sentences for context.
don't skip writing. bad advice.
learn kanji "naturally" hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
0:19 looks and sounds like jimin low-key
This an incredibly well researched and informative video. Thank you Uta-san!
Shes not vocoloid its a real person singing not an ai or robot
So can we start impersonating them again without losing our jobs?
Now we know how difficult it was at the Tower of Babel lol 😂
So English to them, is speaking Japanese garble but using hand gestures.
探険でも間違いではないよなぁ
so funny
女性を一晩買うのにいくらですか?
i hate it, when example verbs are ichidan - like taberu(食べる) because i need to know that tai changes the last letter to i, so it's -(i)tai. if i don't know te change of letter, then i will take a godan verb - aruku(歩く) and turn it into arukutai(歩くたい) instead of arukitai(歩きたい).
One crazy thing about non-conscious knowledge is that sometimes you remember the meaning of a word but can’t translate it,even when it has a direct translation to the other languages you speak
Yuta Sensei's way of analysing things are extremely thorough and in-depth. ❤
oh wow it sounds like simlish
I fully understand that to start speaking a language you should actually SPEAK IT, but my social anxiety and silly fear of mistakes do not let me do it, despite my JLPT level is N3+. So here we are - I can understand a lot, watch dorama/anime without subtitles and even read books, but I can not say anything. When I'm trying to form a thought, I easily get switched to grammar rules and always need to check whether everything is alright with the meaning in the context, if it sounds natural. But, to be honest, I really like studying grammar, all those structures, etymology and so on, it doesn't seem for me like a burden. The thing is I forget everything easily without practice, without using it. On the other side - _speaking_ Japanese is not my main goal in learning the language, I do not speak a lot even in my native lang, but it is such a shame when you can't say something simple after years of studying The thing that kinda helped me improve my English speaking/texting is character AI, but I am not really sure if AI is good with Japanese
Yes the argument against textbooks and the need for native input is well-intentioned and not necessarily wrong. However, the way it is usually presented is strongly biased against textbooks, usually these are completely dismissed as if there is no need for them other than "passing exams". In my experience this isn't true and I don't believe helps language learners who are starting out learning a language. The reality is that until you reach around an intermediate level, you need textbooks and you need watered-down, non-native-like content until you build you foundational base. I don't see many people acknowledging this. Is it theoretically possible to become fluent without ever touching a textbook as an adult? Maybe, but if we are honest this is not practical for 99% of people. And anyone who attempts this will find they cannot understand anything for years, having to stop reading/watching every single sentence and go research the grammar/vocab in order to understand it. This would be a very miserable experience. Nevertheless I agree that once you reach around intermediate level, then textbooks do more harm than good and immersion is the only way to reach an advanced level.
I passed N3. I didn't study for it for a minute. I just went in and passed. It made me confident that I don't need to study. I'm probably approaching N2 slowly (due to kanji). I speak Japanese faster than most natives now and get a lot of compliments about my speed, pronunciation and fluency. Why? I go out drinking regularly and only speak in Japanese. It's all about that ノミュニケーション baby. Most foreigners who move to Japan don't integrate or immerse though, they'll date the first 4/10 Japanese girl who pay them attention and then proceed to only speak English daily. Most of my friends can't speak English.
I can speak and use just about all the languages that I learn. There’s no problem with it. Although I always fail in those tests. So by definition, I am a failure as I fail to learn how to have an explanatory conversation. Which is basically the same as test taking, just more interaction base. So my mistake when learning Japanese is not learn how to do tests.
save me 20 minutes, is this just "textbook bad" again
basically yeah
I guess they only sound American to other Japanese. No one yell Godzilla.
I’d love to see this with that west dialect of old Japanese, where there are many characters that no longer exist and no one would know
Very clever. We must use a lot of hand gestures?
This is a pretty fantastic video. I have been doing/thinking these things subconsciously because it has just been whats worked. I have been saying vocabulary is the most important thing for me to learn because after I got a foundation of grammar, I can pretty much figure out the grammar or acquire it naturally. When you were talking about the implicit learning at the beginning, I was kinda disagree until you mentioned that was for grammar, but that explicit is more useful for vocabulary, and then I fully agreed with everything. Especially that context doesn't work like people say it does. I can count on one hand how many times I figured out a word from context and I have been learning for 2 years. Maybe after 5 years that works, but that is not a strategy for anyone who is still actively learning a language.
this is why taking a class, preferably at a young age , is so effective in language learning
Disagree. I took 2 years of japanese in college, passed all classes with A's, didn't learn anything. Did self study for a few years and became fluent. I think classes are a waste of time.
@@exnecross3141 that must be a shit college did you not practice speaking Japanese and listening to native speech? That's what we did at mine
@Jamtron88 sure we did, but the problem is you have to learn at everyone else's pace. And you only have a few hours a week of practice. To learn Japanese, you should be studying several hours every day. Classes are far too slow to get anywhere in a reasonable amount of time.
@@exnecross3141 I guess that's an issue of class size and can't really be gotten around in that situation. College might not be the best place for it then unless you have a small class!
This is so great! Good idea for a video
